SECOND FULL-TIME PASTOR
After a nine-month vacancy, Christ Lutheran Church installed a new pastor, the Rev. Arthur E. Lyons, Jr., on June 19, 1955. Prior to his installation, Rev. Lyons was ordained in the ministry by the Rev. Carl Gaertner, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Dallas, and Vice-President of the Texas District LCMS. The Rev. Wesley J. Kuhn, pastor of Fort Worth’s Zion Lutheran Church, preached the sermon. Liturgists included the Rev. Walter E. Dorre (St. Paul Lutheran) and the Rev. Herbert Rast (Redeemer Lutheran). As a matter of interest, Redeemer Lutheran was established as a new congregation on Fort Worth’s west side in 1954 under the leadership of the Rev. Herbert Rast.
The Rev. Arthur E. Lyons, Jr., a native of Rock Island, Illinois, graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis, in 1955. He served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during which time he served one year in Korea.
Rev. Lyons resigned as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in October 1956 and relocated to Alamo, Texas (the Rio Grande Valley area).
